# VS Code extension commands and settings

> Every command of the Square Cloud extension for VS Code, its settings, and solutions to common problems.

## Commands

Open the command palette (`Ctrl+Shift+P` / `Cmd+Shift+P`) and type **Square Cloud**.

With an account connected, the palette also runs the application and database actions. Each one asks which application or database to use and lists only the ones it applies to: Start offers applications that aren't running, Stop and Restart the ones that aren't stopped, the edge tools only websites, and metrics only applications with 512 MB or more.

The same actions are in the menu of each card in the side bar: right-click an application, database or workspace, or use its ⋯ button.

## Settings

| `squarecloud.favApps` | `[]` | IDs of your favorite applications, shown at the top of the list. The star on each card manages it, so you rarely need to edit it by hand. |

## Activation and refresh

The extension activates only when needed: when the workspace has a `squarecloud.app` or `squarecloud.config` file, or when you open the Square Cloud side bar, run one of its commands or open a config file. Until then, it has no background activity.

Once active, it refreshes your account every **60 seconds**. Polling pauses while the VS Code window is out of focus and refreshes as soon as you come back, so an idle editor doesn't spend your API quota. When a rate limit is hit, background polling pauses for a few minutes and the side bar keeps what is already on screen.

## Troubleshooting

  <Accordion title="Nothing shows up in the side bar">
    Check that an account is connected: without one, the side bar shows the sign-in screen. If Square Cloud can't be reached, is pausing requests or is under maintenance, the side bar says which, with **Try again** and **Service status** buttons.

  <Accordion title="Your authorization expired or was revoked">
    Authorizations last 90 days and can't be renewed silently. Run `Square Cloud: Connect Account` again. You can revoke an authorization at any time under **My Account → Authentication** in the [dashboard](https://squarecloud.app/en/account/security).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Someone sent you a code or a link to approve">
    Don't enter it. Approving someone else's code connects their editor to your account. If the page rejects the code you pasted, start over from VS Code.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Upload fails with a missing config error">
    The chosen folder needs a `squarecloud.app` or `squarecloud.config` file at its root. See the [config file guide](/en/getting-started/config-file).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Upload fails because the zip is too large">
    Zips are limited to 100 MB. Add build output, caches and dependency folders to [`squarecloud.ignore`](/en/getting-started/squarecloud-ignore). `node_modules` and `.git` are already left out, and dependencies are installed on the platform from your manifest.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A command failed with a rate-limit message">
    Wait before trying again. Background polling already backs off on its own, and retrying over and over only keeps the limit in place.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Diagnosing anything else">
    Open **View → Output** and pick the **Square Cloud** channel for a log of every API call, and include it when you report a bug on [GitHub](https://github.com/squarecloudofc/vscode-extension).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The data looks stale">
    Click the status bar item or the refresh icon in the side bar's title bar. Remember that polling pauses while the window is out of focus.
