# Start database

> Start a stopped database with POST /v2/databases/{database_id}/start. It comes back with the same connection URL, port and credentials as before.

<ParamField header="Authorization" type="string" placeholder="API Key" required>
  The API key for your account. You can find this in your [account settings](https://squarecloud.app/en/account/security).
</ParamField>

Requires an API key with the `databases:write` [scope](/en/api-reference/authentication#scopes).

Starts a database that was previously stopped, bringing it back online at the same connection URL, port and credentials it had before. Use this to bring a managed MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL or Redis instance back up after maintenance or a manual [Stop](/en/api-reference/endpoint/databases/stop).

The request is rejected while a snapshot restore is running on the same database. Rate limited to 1 start per 3 seconds per user. Check [Get Database Status](/en/api-reference/endpoint/databases/status) to confirm the database is actually running, since a `success` response only means the action was dispatched.

## Parameters

<ParamField path="database_id" type="string" placeholder="Database ID" required>
  The ID of the database.
</ParamField>

## Response

<ResponseField name="status" type="string">
  Indicates whether the call was successful: `success` if it was, `error` if not.
</ResponseField>

<ResponseExample>
  ```json theme={"system"}
  {
    "status":"success"
  }
  ```
</ResponseExample>
