# Delete application

> Permanently delete an application with DELETE /v2/apps/{app_id}. It releases its custom domain, cannot be undone and is refused while a restore runs.

<ParamField header="Authorization" type="string" placeholder="API Key" required>
  The API key for your account. You can find this in your [account settings](https://squarecloud.app/en/account/security).
</ParamField>

Requires an API key with the `apps:write` [scope](/en/api-reference/authentication#scopes).

Deleting an application permanently removes it from the cluster it runs on, releases any custom domain attached to it (unless another of your applications still serves that hostname), and invalidates your cached project and workspace listings so the change shows up immediately in the dashboard and API.

This action cannot be undone through the API. If you only want to free up resources temporarily, use [Stop Application](/en/api-reference/endpoint/apps/stop) instead, or take a [snapshot](/en/api-reference/endpoint/apps/snapshots/create) first so you can restore the application later.

The request is rejected while a snapshot restore is already running for the same application. It is rate limited to 1 request every 3 seconds per user.

## Parameters

<ParamField path="app_id" type="string" placeholder="Application ID" required>
  The ID of the application. You can find this in the URL of your application's dashboard.
</ParamField>

## Response

<ResponseField name="status" type="string">
  Indicates whether the call was successful: `success` if it was, `error` if not.
</ResponseField>

<ResponseExample>
  ```json theme={"system"}
  {
      "status": "success"
  }
  ```
</ResponseExample>

## Common errors

| Code | HTTP | Meaning |
| - | - | - |
| `RESTORE_IN_PROGRESS` | 403 | A snapshot restore is currently running for this application; wait for it to finish before deleting. |
| `APP_NOT_FOUND` | 404 | The application does not exist or does not belong to the caller. |
| `DELETE_FAILED` | 404 | The cluster rejected the delete operation. |
